Cole Felmlee


Cole Felmlee, Baraboo Cole Felmlee, age 85 of Baraboo, passed away on Monday, Oct. 22, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. Cole, the son of the late Raymond and Helen (Cole) Felmlee, was born on Dec. 26, 1926 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was proud to be a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II as a Pharmacist's Mate. On Oct. 7, 1950, Cole was united in marriage to Martha "Jane" Nordin.She preceded him in death on Nov. 1, 1995. Cole taught Chemistry and Math at Baraboo Senior High School for 36 years. He had been known as "Captain" Cole as he had operated the "Steamboat" that toured Devil's Lake. Cole had also been employed at Soil Test, transported prisoners for the Sauk County Sheriff's Department, and taught Chemistry at the UW Baraboo/Sauk County Center. He was very active in his community and was a member of Baraboo American Legion Post 26, Circus Fans, the Masonic Lodge, the Golden K, the Baraboo Theatre Guild, and the Retired Teachers Association. He was a Past Exalted Ruler and Life Member of Baraboo Elks Lodge #688. Cole had served as Secretary and a youth bowling instructor for the Baraboo Bowling Association and was inducted into their Hall of Fame. He thoroughly enjoyed antique gun collecting, coin collecting, and being a volunteer with Circus World Wagon Tours. He is survived by his daughters, Diane H. (Scott S.) Felmlee-Gartner and Deborah J. (Michael E.) Steinhorst; five grandchildren, Michelle D. and Jeanette M. Felmlee-Gartner, Brenda L. (Paul) Nitardy, and Gary M. (Fiance, Courtney Bietz) Steinhorst; three great-grandchildren, Cody A. and Ashley C. Nitardy and Taylor S. Steinhorst; other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents and his wife, Cole was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Felmlee. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 26, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church in Baraboo with Reverend Lisa Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Hill Cemetery where a Masonic Service will be held and military rites will be conducted by the Baraboo Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012 at the Redlin Funeral Home, 401 Madison Ave in Baraboo; and at the church on Friday, from 10 a.m. until the time of services. An Elks Memorial Service will take place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or the Veterans Care Trust Fund.
