Charles Lloyd Dvorak, born June 24, 1964, in Madison, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully from aggressive cancer on October 13, 2026, surrounded by his family at home in Baraboo, Wisconsin.
A hardworking journeyman plumber by trade, Charlie’s handiwork can be seen throughout the area, including in many attractions and resort locations across the Wisconsin Dells. If you’ve shopped in a Walmart in Wisconsin, there’s a good chance you benefited from Charlie’s extraordinary plumbing skills. He proudly built his own home by the Wisconsin River with the help of family and friends, and he generously lent his skills to help lead the construction of several other homes for his loved ones.
Charlie possessed a deep love for the great outdoors. As an avid hunter and fisherman, he cherished fly-in fishing trips to Opasquia, Ontario, and hosting annual spring fishing tournaments at the family campsite on the Wisconsin River.
He treasured traveling, cruising the Caribbean almost every winter and taking a few memorable cruises with his family to South America and Norway (where he lamented that the old world had totally forgotten how to make lefse the right way). He also enjoyed a very special last cruise this past January with 53 family members and friends on board.
A committed man of faith, Charlie served as the president of his church, Our Savior Lutheran, where he was also affectionately known as the master of their fried cheese curd fundraisers.
Above all, he was known as someone always willing to help others without ever asking anything in return.
In his final season of life, Charlie experienced an amazing list of “lasts,” focusing on family, friends, tradition, and joy:
He had a winter adventure with his brother and nephew to a Canadian island.
He became the proud owner of a beautiful 1979 Chevy Camaro.
He went to Las Vegas and visited the places where he had spread his wife’s ashes.
He enjoyed a fly-in fishing trip to Opasquia with close friends and family in late August.
He took a horseback ride with over 20 family members in early September.
He caught his last Walleye near his Rainy Lake island in late September.
He enjoyed a trip to Lambeau to see the Packers take on the Falcons (even though only his Georgia-loyal son-in-law and granddaughter enjoyed the game, the rest of the group enjoyed the company).
He visited his grandfather's cabin in Sprague.
He relished a soup cook-off with extended family at the river campsite.
Most importantly, he passed down family traditions by making his last batch of traditional Norwegian lefse (the right way) and rosettes a few weeks ago with close family and friends.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Nancy Dvorak, and his beloved wife, Karen Dvorak.
He is survived by his children, Charles Dvorak (Jessamyn) and Pamela Freeze (Scott); sister, Cheryl McIntire (Greg); brother, Carl Dvorak (Terry); stepmother, Donna Dvorak; stepsister, Debbie Sale; stepbrother, John Kowalke; grandchildren, Alexis, Hannah, Jemini, Lana, and Clayton; great-granddaughter, Ellianna; and a large number of nieces, nephews, and cousins with whom he greatly loved spending time.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the SSM Oncology and Hospice teams in Baraboo for their compassionate care, which gave Charlie one last wonderful season and a peaceful transition.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 19, 2026, at Spring Brook, 242 Lake Shore Drive, Wisconsin Dells, WI 53965, with Pastor Matthew Gehrke officiating. Following immediately, will be the Celebration of Life and Luncheon, at the same location.
