Mary Sue Dorothy “Mary” (Derge) Henderson, age 79, passed away peacefully at home with family by her side on Friday, February 20, 2026.
Mary, daughter of Garhard and Beatrice (Block) Derge was born June 5, 1946, in Watertown. On January 21, 1967, she was united in marriage to David L. Henderson, Sr. at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in Oconomowoc; he preceded her in death on February 12, 1998.
Mary loved to swim, ice skate, dancing and bowling with David; her family will remember her C.B. radio handle of ‘Sunshine’. Mary was an Elvis fanatic; she was proud to share her dream trip to Graceland with her daughter, Amber and grandchildren, KaLee and Austin. She loved nothing more than her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan.
She was employed at Darrow’s Country Market in the deli for many years and finished her career at the deli at Wal-Mart in Baraboo.
She is survived by her loving children, David Jr., Amber (Brian) Vodvarka, Todd (Bobbie Jo Simmons) Henderson, Troy (Gina Miller) Henderson; grandchildren, David and Lauren Christianson, Brittany Zaldivar, Kiefer Henderson, Greg Borkenhagen Jr., Cory (Maurine) Borkenhagen, Melissa (Taylor) Chaney, KaLee (Jesse) Lane, Austin (Macy Ziegler) Henderson, Maycee Henderson, Emily Henderson, Dawson Henderson; great-grandchildren, Brooke Borkenhagen, Owen Borkenhagen, Haven Borkenhagen, Brennan Borkenhagen, Carson Chaney, Elaina Chaney, Kyree Henderson, Denise Zaldivar, Juan Zaldivar, Malikai Henderson, Martina Henderson, Amara Henderson, Royce Henderson and a baby boy due next month. She is further survived by her brother, Robert (Donna) Derge; cousin, Laurie Krohn who was like a sister to Mary; as well as a special great-grandson, DayviD.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Merlin Derge; and her granddaughter, Hope Henderson.
Funeral Services for Mary will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, at Immanuel Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Merrimac.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nursing staff on the Acute Care Floor at Sauk Prairie Hospital as well as Agrace Hospice for the compassionate care and love shown to Mary and her family.
