Alice Catherine Finley Kaschel passed away at her home on Sunday, September 21, 2025. Born to Robert Pinkney Finley and Norma V. Bowman on November 7, 1936 in West Allis, Wisconsin, Alice married Robert Carl Kaschel on June 7, 1958 in West Allis. Alice was the only member of her Finley family to attend university, graduating from UW Milwaukee with a degree in education, the week after marrying Bob so that they could share the same last name on their diplomas.
Alice and Bob adopted their children, Susan in 1964 and David in 1966. Moving to Baraboo in 1965, Alice and Bob were very active in the Emanuel Methodist Church, the Order of Eastern Star, the Daughters of the Nile, and the Baraboo Rainbow Girls. Alice served as the Sauk County Human Services grant writer for over twenty years and enjoyed her later years working in customer service for Lands End in Reedsburg.
Alice loved to travel. While working for Sauk County Alice had the opportunity to study the early Swedish projects for employing individuals with mental and physical disabilities, taking her husband and children with her to live in Lund, Sweden for several months. With many trips around the country, including Alaska and Hawaii, a 50th Anniversary trip to Australia and New Zealand, Europe, Canada and beyond, Alice collected countless memories and photos of her travel adventures.
Alice is survived by her daughter, Susan (Steven) Henkel of West Bend, her son, David Kaschel of North Freedom, her grandchildren: Spencer & Saige Henkel, Amber Gill, and Sydney Derenne and six great grandchildren. In addition, Alice leaves behind her college best friend of 70+ years, Edith Brown. Preceding her in death: her parents Robert & Norma Finley, her sisters Donna Finley & Lois Meddaugh, her brother Robert Finley, her husband Robert Kaschel and grandson Zach Henkel.
Alice will be missed by her family and friends both in the community and beyond. A Celebration of Life will be held at her home in North Freedom on Saturday, October 25th from 1-5pm.
