Ronald D. `Ron` Bell , Age 76


May 23, 1949 --June 21, 2025

Ronald D. “Ron” Bell, age 76, of North Freedom passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 21, 2025 with family by his side.

Ron was born in Baraboo, on May 23, 1949, to James and Lorraine (Kopf) Bell. He graduated from Reedsburg Webb High School, Class of 1968.  Ron answered the call to his country by enlisting in the U.S. Navy in June 1968, serving his country until February 1970. He worked as a foreman and welder at Rock Springs Quarry for 38 years until his retirement.  Ron was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rock Springs and the North Freedom Fire Department. Throughout the years, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and farming. He especially loved spending time with his family and friends.

Ron is survived by his wife Bonnie of North Freedom; daughter, Melissa "Missy" (Nick) Stephens of Oklahoma City, OK; stepchildren, Jodi (Heath) Feiner of North Freedom and Jill (Clint) Schonenberger of Sauk Prairie; grandchildren, Rhys and Bryce Stephens, Chesney and Malea Schonenberger and Hayden Feiner; brothers, Lester (Heidi) Bell, Donald (Sandy) Bell, Bill (Mary) Bell, John (Sue) Bell and Jim (Carol) Bell; sisters, Edith (Harley) Wiese and Sue Bell; other relatives and good friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Nancy Held; brothers, Ted, Dennis (Betty) and Bob (Sandy) Bell and his sister, Donna (Doug) Dyke.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 27, 2025 at St. John Lutheran Church of Rock Springs with Pastor David Karow officiating. Visitation will be held at Redlin-Ertz Funeral Home in Baraboo on Thursday, June 26, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. as well as at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.  Interment will follow with Military Honors at Oak Hill Cemetery in North Freedom.

The family would like to thank the staff at BrightStar Care and St. Croix Hospice for their care of Ron.

Ron was a great friend and he worked hard in that Quarry, I know for a fact he could weld upside down . He also loved to Bear hunt . I am going to miss you old friend.I truly appreciate your service to the country.

So sorry for your loss, Ron was a quite the guy! Big part of my life when his daughter Melissa and I were growing up. Worked @ the quarry with my dad and hung out @ the farm alot!! Rest in Peace Ronny and have a drink with my dad!!!
