Francis A. Hohl , Age 98

January 21, 1927 --May 01, 2025

Francis Anthony Hohl, age 98, of rural Baraboo passed away on May 1, 2025 with his loving wife of 74 years and his children at his side.  Francis was born January 21, 1927 in Rib Lake, Wisconsin to Anthony and Agatha (Seidel) Hohl.

Francis grew up on a farm in Rib Lake.  On May 13, 1950, he married his sweetheart, Rosemary Bach at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, Wisconsin.  Shortly after, the newlyweds lived in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin and then Capron, Illinois.  In 1956, they bought their beloved farm in Baraboo where they live to this day.

Faith, Family, and Farm defined Francis’s legacy.  Prayer and faith were as natural as tilling the fields or milking the cows. He knew the value of a hard day’s work and took tremendous pride at harvest time.  After a long day of hard work, Francis could be found enjoying a homemade meal and conversation with his wife and children at the kitchen table.  Francis and Rosemary enjoyed traveling, but they were the happiest when they were home enjoying the simple pleasures of life on their farm.  Francis loved his children and grandchildren dearly but above all cherished his time with Rosemary.

Francis helped out with many organizations including the PCA and Farm Credit.  Francis was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for nearly 70 years.

Francis is survived by his wife Rosemary, children Duane (Laura) Hohl, Vernon Hohl, Marilyn (Dale) Marousek, Jerry Hohl, June Lee, Myron Hohl (Tamra), Karen (Paul) Larson, Mark (Sonya) Hohl, 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, sister Dorothy Heinrich, sisters-in-law Kay Hohl, Fern Laube, and Marlene Bach as well as many treasured nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Francis was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Sharon Hohl, son Dennis (Linda) Hohl, grandson Andrew Hohl, siblings Harvey Hohl and Cecilia (Bill) Farley, brothers-in-law Roman Kornhoff and Harold Heinrich.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Luke Powers presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass.  Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Rosemary Hohl to be used toward a donation to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Francis’ name.  The Redlin-Ertz Funeral Home is assisting the family.

My condolences to you Karen, and the entire Hohl family, on the loss of a great and fascinating man...who happened to be your dad - and what a huge blessing it is to have great and loving parents. I actually thought of you, and your parents, last week as I drove by Hwy 33 on my way to visit family in Reedsburg. In my mind, it got me to reminiscing about our stay at your folks house while we were getting certified for scuba diving in nearby Devil's Lake. Your folks were so hospitable and welcoming and I was fortunate to witness firsthand the affection between my friend (you Karen) and your awesome parents. God's comfort to you all. - Derek

Hohl family, I am so very sorry to hear the news of Francis’ passing. What an interesting and wonderful man. I fondly remember the story he told of making sure his teenagers all had older cars to work on… to give them something productive to do! Francis went straight to heaven, absolutely no doubt. I will light a candle in church for your family’s healing hearts.
