Michael P. “Mick” Quindt, age 79, of Baraboo, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, January 30, 2025.
Michael, son of Reinhardt and Lillian (Lee) Quindt was born December 27, 1945 at St. Mary’s Ringling Hospital in Baraboo. On August 6, 1966, he was united in marriage to Virginia Wutz at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Baraboo.
While attending Baraboo High School, he worked at Ott Hardware. He also had a passion for photography, which led him to developing pictures for the Sauk County Sheriff's Department. Upon graduating in 1964, he worked at Sherwin-Williams and enlisted in the US Army Reserves. He was called to active duty and proudly served in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. After his military service, Mick was employed by Kirch Appliance where he eventually became part owner. In addition, Mick held various other jobs in the Baraboo area including working for Woodman Accident and Life Insurance, Gardner’s Baking Company and Glacier Valley Ford. In 1997, Mick and Virginia purchased Quindt’s Towne Lounge and operated it for 19 years, which serves as a gathering place for many to this day.
Mick served as President of the Sauk County Tavern League for two terms. He was also a member of numerous organizations, including St. Joseph Catholic Church, Baraboo Elks Lodge #688, Fort Myers Moose Lodge, American Legion, Greenwood Memorial VFW and Disabled American Veterans.
Mick enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and also made new friends wherever he went. He enjoyed watching his favorite sports teams, such as the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, and Wisconsin Badgers Football and Basketball. Growing fresh fruits and vegetables, which were enjoyed by his family and friends, was a passion of his. He also loved vacationing in Fort Myers, Beach Florida. As a teenager, Mick was fortunate to participate in the first Great Circus Parade in Milwaukee.
Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Virgina; children, Rachel (Joseph) Kutzke, Rhonda (Brian) Zirzow, and Ryan Quindt; grandchildren, Kyle (Marlina) Kutzke, Kelsey (Blake) Ferkingstad, Zachary (Brooke) Zirzow, Jacob (Brittany) Zirzow, Drew, Kierstin and Marshall Quindt; great-grandchildren, Graham Zirzow, Leland Ferkingstad, Bennett Kutzke and Shea Zirzow; sister, Peggy McArthur; brother-in-law, Joel Hammermeister; sister-in-law, Barb Wutz as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, John and Mary Wutz and brother-in-law, Roy Wutz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Luke Powers presiding.
