James M. “Jim” Halbach, age 87, of Baraboo, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at Oak Park Place in Baraboo.
James was born to Gido and Loraine (Mueller) Halbach on March 7, 1937 in Fon du Lac. After high school, in 1956 he enlisted in the Army Airborne Division serving until 1958. He married Virginia Berger in July 1959. Together they had three daughters. Virginia and Jim loved to go on day trips, exploring and finding the greatest lunch spots and returning home by 5pm for cocktail hour; it was one of his greatest pleasures.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Wendy (Brian) Hakala; grandchildren, Alex Halbach, Annie (Nick) Licitar, Mitch Halbach, Dylan (Kristin) Baxter, Taylor (Cody) Woodruff; brother, Lee Halbach; his sister, JoAnne Schierl; other relatives and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 47 years, Virginia; daughters, Susan and Michelle Baxter; brother, David (Valerie) Halbach; sister-in-law, Sherry Halbach and brother-in-law, Paul Schierl.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 24, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Luke Powers presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Private inurnment will be held at St. Michael Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Jim’s favorite charity: City of St. Jude Parish, 2048 West Fairview Ave. Montgomery, AL, 36108.
The family would like to thank the care team staff at Oak Park Place in Baraboo as well as Agrace HospiceCare; they are angels, every one of them.
