Robert `Bob` Wedekind , Age 82

March 11, 1942 --January 01, 2025

Robert “Bob” Wedekind passed away with family by his side on Wednesday January 1, 2025.

Bob was born to Victor and Helen (Woefel) Wedekind on March 11, 1942 in Baraboo.  Following high school, he enlisted in the Air Force where he served in several countries and was honorably discharged in 1966.  After serving in the military, he opened BJ’s Wild Wood where he had been known to say the best mistake he made was asking Patty Rogers for her ID.  This request for identification may have been the spark that led to over 53 years of marriage for Bob and Patty.  Together they owned Delmo’s Pizza in downtown Baraboo for many years.  He was the second-best pizza maker ever, but some may say we need to take a vote on this call.  Bob was a wise and independent thinker with a strong entrepreneurial drive that led him to many opportunities including antique, car, and home sales, and real estate investment long before it was popular.  He had an auctioneer service with a crowd attendance that had an equal interest in both bidding and observing the humor he was able to create in the moment.

Wellness was a priority and he walked several miles a day enjoying the river walk and streets of downtown Baraboo.  By nature he paused and tuned into important details often easily missed by most.  He looked for chrysanthemum in flower bouquets because he knew those would last the longest for Patty.  He sensed how to make a real connection with people to make them feel at ease.

Bob was effortlessly youthful with a magnetism toward pulling pranks and telling the best jokes.  One notable joke heard many times was “Bob spelled backwards is still Bob.”  But most jokes were funny.  We suspect he supplemented some of his ideas from Dad Jokes Books, Al Bundy, and the local Coffee Clutch Boys.  For more serious matters, Bob could be found gathering information from the television when the feature was The Judge Judy Show.  On any random day he cruised around in his beloved aqua 1957 Chevy pickup.  He made two exceptions to the “No Girls Allowed” rule around his vintage cars for granddaughters Ava and Fiona.

Life is only half lived if you have never got in a car and driven off on the open road going where it takes you.

Bob is survived by his wife, Patty; his daughters, Laura & Ryan, Tara & Dan and their two daughters Ava and Fiona, and Amy & John; brother, Rollie & Sandy, Glen Schulz; sisters, Karen and Joyce; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bill & Ellen, and his sister, Mary.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2025 from 4pm - 6pm at Redlin-Ertz Funeral Home in Baraboo.  Burial will be private.  For online condolences, visit www.redlin-ertzfuneralhome.com

My heart breaks for Patty and their family. I am so blessed to have been able to know and spend time with Bob. His humor was second to none and was always so enjoyable to be around. His presence will be missed terribly. May you drive only the best of old hot rod vehicles and keep that wonderful smile and humor up there in heaven. Till we meet again my friend, and I’ll bring my guitar.

I remember being a little girl visiting WI and Bob was always so charming, funny, sincere and kind. The bantering between Bob and Aunt Patty was the cutest I had ever seen. I am so sorry for your loss. There must be such a void in your lives right now. But hopefully, to be soon replaced with all the wonderful love and memories you have had over the years . Thinking of you all!
