Gary Allen Joseph Michael Cummings, age 74, passed away at home on Wednesday, October 30th, with his loving wife by his side after battling with Interstitial Lung Disease.
Gary, son of William and Marcella (Payne) Cummings was born in Baraboo on August 19, 1950, on his father’s birthday. He was a graduate of Baraboo High School (class of ‘68) and furthered his education by attending Boo-U. Gary grew up on the Cummings Family Farm and worked alongside his Dad and role model his entire life and wouldn’t have traded that for anything in the world. He married the love of his life, Pam Wilson, on October 23, 1976 and had just celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary. Gary took immense pride in running and maintaining his family’s Century Farm just outside of Baraboo his whole life. While farming and raising a family, Gary found time to give back to his community by serving on the Cenex Board, the Baraboo School Board, Sauk County Fair Board, and was a Town of Delton Supervisor, to name a few. Gary enjoyed competing in demo derbies, playing cards, watching sports, camping, going on road trips, and making memories with those he loved. Friendship was something that he valued a great deal and Gary was incredibly lucky to have an endless amount of amazing friends that spanned far past the border of Wisconsin.
Gary was tremendously proud of his family and survived by his wife, Pam Cummings; Son, Patrick (Kim) Cummings; Daughter, Katie Cummings; Daughter, Megan (Travis) Pierce. His pride and joy were his four grandkids, Aiden & Byron Cummings and Harper & Finley Pierce. Preceding him in death were both his parents, his baby sister, Carmen, and his brother, Billy.
A Prayer Service will be held at Redlin-Ertz Funeral Home on Friday, November 8, 2024 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. as well as from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday.
The family is planning a celebration of life for a later date.

Truly a solid and strong man, I always loved his sense of humor and his admiration for his family. He was such a loving and dedicated family man with deep roots to the contribution to the farming life and was a well-respected man that was involved in making his community the very best by being a part of more than a few organizations. I love his "Hulk" story, and when we would connect for a solid handshake, it always felt genuine which I always had to pull him in for a hug at that point. Rest easy Hulk, may the wind cast to your back and the sun forever shine on your face, you will be missed!

I had the honor of serving with Gary for six years on The Baraboo School Board. He was as ‘down-to-earth’ as could be, cutting through the ‘noise’ to the essential issue—and always on the best side for students, teachers, and the staff. He will surely be missed by us all! Condolences to his family: ‘a flight of angels sing him to his rest…’

I wish all of Gary’s family strength in adjusting to life without him. I served with him for years on the school board where he was always a voice that folks listened to. I didn’t really get to know Gary until the first time he invited me to join him and Kevin Vodak to ride the train with them from the Dells to Milwaukee to attend the school board convention. The west-bound Empire Builder is not always on schedule in January, and our trip ended up taking about six hours, but we had a hell of good time. It was the first of many.

Dear Cummings family, I’m very sorry for your loss of Gary. My dad, Irv Berendes, and I thought so much of him. He was always happy and willing to help. He’d gotten my dad and I out of some interesting machinery binds—always with a smile. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Sincerely, Laurie Berendes Stout
