Jean Bernadine Stopper , Age 84

Jean Bernadine Stopper, age 84, of Baraboo, passed away with family by her side on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at Meadow View Assisted Living.

 

Jean, daughter of Benjamin and Mary (McKeon) O’Brien, was born in Darlington, WI on October 8, 1940. She was a graduate of Darlington High School. On June 21, 1958, she was united in marriage to Phillip D. “Phil” Stopper at Immaculate Conception Church in Truman, Wisconsin; he preceded her in death on November 12, 2020. Jean had various jobs throughout the years including Darrow’s Grocery Store, West Baraboo Outlet, Land’s End phone center and warehouse to name a few. She was also a dedicated wife and mother, raising five children. She was an active member for many years at St. Joseph Catholic Church, including the Daughters of Isabella, as well as the American Legion Auxiliary. When not volunteering or raising a family, Jean enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren’s sporting events, baking, sewing and doing search words.

 

She is survived by her loving children, Linda (Bret) Anderson, Laurie (Brian) Barchus, George (Cyndi) Stopper, Tina (Bruce) Gebhard, Michele (Pat) Henry; grandchildren, Ben (Katy) Anderson, Jessica (Nils) Henderson, Ashley (Joe Reed) Anderson, Joshua (Amber Bittner) Barchus, Bruce (Natalie) Gebhard Jr., Tierney (Joe) Sawaska, Mike (Hannah Hartwood) Gebhard, Samantha (Matt) Robson, Trayton Stewart, Megan (Chris) Haack, Macy Henry, Brady Henry; great-grandchildren, Thomas, Riley, Emery, Harper, Aiden, Chloe, Austin, Landon, Blake, Savannah, Emma, Jack, Will and Hudson; she is further survived by her siblings, Patrick “Gary” (Betty) O’Brien, and Mary Karow; sisters-in-law, Henrietta “Hank” O’Brien, Florence O’Brien, Nancy Prine; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Phil; infant daughter, Mary; twin sister, Joan Carey; sister, Judy; brothers, Melvin, Donald, Francis, Paul, Harold, Mike and Larry.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Garrett Kau presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.

 

Memorials may be made in Jean’s memory to American Legion Auxiliary Post 26, PO Box 37, Baraboo.
