Shirley J. Wedekind, age 92, of Baraboo, passed away on Monday, October 7, 2024 at St. Clare Hospice House with family by her side.
Shirley, daughter of Orval and Florence (Evans) Walker was born June 7, 1932 in the Town of Trenton, Dodge County, Wisconsin. She was a graduate of Wisconsin Dells High School. On July 11, 1953, she was united in marriage to Phillip J. “Phil” Wedekind at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Wisconsin Dells. Shirley worked for Specialty Battery Co., Hagen Mfg. Co. and Reuhl Products Inc. but most importantly, she was a devoted housewife and mother, raising five children.
In her free time, Shirley enjoyed camping, traveling, latch hook rugs, and playing solitaire. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids. Shirley always looked forward to their family Sunday dinners.
She is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Phil; children, Tim Wedekind, Tom Wedekind, James (Lisa) Wedekind and Janet Walrath, all of Baraboo; eight grandchildren, Christopher (Stacey) Stanley, Matt Stanley, Kyle Stanley, Shane (Alina) Wedekind, Ryan Wedekind, Briana (Kyle) Stepp, Audrey Wedekind, and Brandon Walrath; seven great-grandchildren, Deacon, Elena, Rhys, Charlie, Sophia, Nolan, and Nora; as well as her siblings, Gale (Bonnie) Walker, Bruce (Pam) Walker, Chester Walker, Patricia Kemp, Charlene Turner, and Mary Albedyll; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Sandra Stanley; sons-in-law, John Walrath, and Dan Stanley; siblings, Robert (Dorothy) Walker, Beverly (Russel) Prothero, Betty (Robert) Giebel, Gerald (Fusako) Walker, Ronald (Sally) Walker, Susan (Edward) Erickson; sister-in-law, Rebecca Walker; and brothers-in-law, William Turner, Harold Rist and Andy Kemp.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. with Father John Blewett presiding. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 14, 2024 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Redlin-Ertz Funeral Home, 401 Madison Ave. in Baraboo. Continued visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass on Tuesday at the church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to SSM Health Hospice House of Baraboo, WI.
The family would like to thank the St. Clare Hospital ICU staff as well as the SSM Health Hospice House staff for their compassion and excellent care.

The older you get the more you remember the good times of your youth. Phil and Shirley were always a refuge for me when I had to get away from the mad house. They were always charitable and kind to me. I remember taking the bus over to Baraboo to visit Shirley and Phil and Prothero's .I even remember visiting them in Sauk City. Chet
