John Bodnar, age 76, of Wisconsin Dells, WI, passed away at home on Thursday, August 8, 2024, surrounded by family.
John was born to Gertrude (Manka) and Frank Bodnar on January 6, 1948, in Racine, WI. He graduated from Horlick High School, Class of 1966. As a young man, he played drums and sang vocals in many Racine rock and roll bands. For most of his career, he was a Journeyman Tool and Die Maker. He “retired” as a home finishing inspector. John was a passionate builder and carpenter. He spent the last eighteen years living in and building a log home. John’s engineering abilities, exacting standards for quality, and artistic talent are evident in every board and caulk line of his “cabin.” With a deep appreciation for nature, he enjoyed feeding birds and spotting deer who shared the forest with him. His favorite foods included cabbage rolls, Hungarian chicken soup, and buttery cut-out Christmas cookies. He had a great sense of humor and was happiest reveling in a family Beatles sing-along while his son Danny played guitar.
John is survived by his best friend Suzanne (Suzie) Rosenberg; daughters Amy (Scott Wilson) and Katie Bodnar; son Daniel Bodnar (Taura Khorramshahi); granddaughters Nico and Iris Wilson; brother Frank Bodnar (Cindy); sisters Frances Petrick (Gary Kruck) and Susan Muntinga (Kevin); and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his infant son Jon Bodnar, his father Frank Bodnar, his mother Gertrude (Manka) Bodnar, and other beloved relatives.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Redlin-Ertz Funeral Home in Baraboo. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Inurnment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in John’s name to Friends & Family Cancer Foundation, PO Box 8, Mauston, WI, 53948.
The family would like to thank Agrace Hospice, Dr. Amy Stella, Dr. Andrew Baschnagel, Dr. Mustafa Baskaya, and the staff at the Mauston Infusion Clinic. They are especially thankful for Suzie Rosenberg’s loving care and support during John’s illness.
