Jerry L. Kinnamon , Age 87

January 16, 1937 --July 12, 2024

Jerry Lynn Kinnamon, age 87, of Baraboo, went to sleep in the Lord on Friday, July 12, 2024.

He was born the son of Elgie and Eva Kinnamon on January 16, 1937. He was a lifelong member of the New Life Community Advent Christian Church in Baraboo. Jerry was very active in his church community, teaching Sunday School for 20 years and singing in the choir. He served on the church board both as a member and chairperson. He was very active in the church expansion, with the design and construction of the sound system being his primary interest. He also enjoyed singing for weddings, funerals and other church events. Jerry was incredibly dedicated to his faith and was always willing to help others build a strong relationship with the Lord.

After graduating from Baraboo High School in 1955, he attended Milwaukee Institute of Technology to become a Diesel Technician, during his time in school he felt God calling him to return home and join in running Kinnamon Saw and Mower, the business his father had started in 1942. Throughout his adult life Jerry was an active participant in his home, church and business communities.

Jerry met his wife, Edith Robinson on a blind date at a birthday party for family members. They were married at Baraboo Advent Christian Church by Rev. Clio Thomas on April 23, 1960, and spent over 60 years together. Jerry and Edith eventually took over ownership of Kinnamon Saw and Mower, which they operated until they sold it and retired in 2002. Business ownership fueled Jerry and Edith’s love for travel. They had many opportunities to explore the United States, eventually traveling to all 50 states, Switzerland, Jamaica, and Aruba. Besides travel, Jerry enjoyed photography, Barbershop Quartet (both singing and listening) and making recordings of church services for family and friends.

Jerry joined the Wisconsin Army National Guard and was called to active duty with the Red Arrow Division. He was stationed at Fort Lewis Washington and returned home from active duty in 1962. He served in the Army National Guard for a total of 7 years. Throughout his adult life Jerry was active in the American Legion post 26 as part of the Honor Guard and as chaplain. His time in the National Guard sparked his interest in military history, specifically WWII.

Jerry is survived by his daughters, Susan (Nathan) Dean of Augusta, GA, Carol Garreans of Augusta, GA; daughter-in-law, Karen Kinnamon of Madison; grandchildren, Caleb Dean, Jacob (Jasmine Smith) Dean, Abby Garreans, Mathew Garreans, Kyla (John McCann) Kinnamon, Kelsey Kinnamon, Karl Kinnamon; sister, Karen Schroeder; special friend, Pat Sardeson; other relatives and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Edith Kinnamon; son, Keith Kinnamon and son-in-law, Kirk Garreans.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at New Life Community Advent Christian Church, 1919 Elizabeth St., Baraboo, with Reverend Jesse Stevens officiating.  Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.  Burial will follow the service on Wednesday at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Baraboo, where Military Honors will be conducted by the Baraboo Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorials can be made to the New Life Community Advent Christian Church in the name of Jerry and Edith Kinnamon.

His family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Our House Assisted Living and SSM Health Hospice for the care and companionship they provided over the past year/months.  Staff went out of their way to ensure that Jerry was living his best possible life. Heartfelt gratitude should be given to Dr. Nathan Mustain and his staff for their excellent medical care.

I am so sorry to hear of Jerry's passing. Jerry was ahead of me in high school but we both attended the same church until I left it in later years. I knew Jerry and Edith for years and his parents. R I P Jerry...you were a great guy.

I was saddened to hear about Jerry's passing. He was such a special guy! I have known him for many years. I went to the LaValle Advent Christian Church and I have family that attend the Baraboo church. When I visited on Sundays Jerry would sometimes sing a special. I always will remember his beautiful voice and his kind personality! I don't remember if he was a part of a Barbershop quartet or not but my Dad was and I might have seen him then, also. I will keep his family in my thoughts and prayers!
