BARABOO -- Marlys E. Schulz died Thursday June 20, 2024. Born January 17, 1931 to Vaughn and Dorothy (Smith) Larrabee, Marlys was a life-long Wisconsin resident. Following graduation from Webster High School and completing a degree in home economics education at UW-Stout, Marlys taught in the Eleva-Strum and Montello school districts. She later worked as the personnel director for the Flambeau Corporation in Baraboo.
Together with the father of her children, Rev. Donald Pardun, Marlys raised a son and a daughter. During those years, she volunteered as a den mother, Girl Scout leader, and room mother. In 1985 Marlys married Willard Schulz, a pastor she had first met while in her teens nearly 50 years earlier when he picked her up to play the organ for a worship service in a neighboring town. They shared ten very good years together.
Growing up, Marlys was her dad's outdoor buddy joining him in activities like baseball, archery, and cross country skiing. A basement darkroom provided a place for her to develop photographs. Etching, piano playing, word games, sewing, and bicycling were among her other interests.
Marlys was active in the music community in Baraboo as a piano teacher, organist, accompanist, and singer in various choirs. She loved her "pool lady" friends, enjoyed Wednesday morning breakfasts with the Emanuel Fellowship Group, and made treasure hunts for her grandchildren. Oak Park Place and St. Clare Meadows provided her with comfortable homes for the final years of her life. The family is thankful for the fine care she received.
Marlys is survived by her son Gary (Carol) Pardun of Kentucky, her daughter Barbara Jantz of Baraboo, grandchildren Grace, Graham (Sonia), Zachary (Amy), Peter (Emily), and Andrew (Erica), sixteen great-grandchildren, the family of her late husband Willard, and other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband Willard Schulz, son-in-law Kevin Jantz, a brother, a sister, a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law.
A private inurnment service for the family will take place at a later date at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Baraboo. Memorial gifts may be made to WCNP Classically Christian radio (www.wcnpfm.org) or a charity of your choice. Redlin-Ertz Funeral Home, Baraboo, is serving the family.

My sincere condolences to Barb, Gary and the entire family. Marlys was the most generous and thoughtful individual. She was the personnel director at Flambeau when I started as a Clerk Typist in 1976. She took such great care of me, as she did for all the employees. May all her sweetness give you comfort forever.

Barbara, lots of love and prayers from Scott and Steph in Oconomowoc. Your mom was such a friend to my dad – they had such a good time together in those early days in Baraboo when they both were healthy and strong. I’m so grateful that their shared faith brought them both such hope and comfort, and I’m also grateful that their shared residence gave me the chance to know you! You will be in my prayers in the days ahead.
