Betty J. Hankins , Age 78

Betty J. Hankins, age 78, formerly of Baraboo, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Homestead Living Memory Care in Waunakee.

Betty, daughter of Floyd and Hazel (Beasley) Cammire, was born in Sylva, NC on January 14, 1946. She graduated from Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park, IL, Class of 1964, and continued her education attending University of Wisconsin-Baraboo. On January 28, 1971, she married Paul Mac Hankins in Chicago, IL; they had 3 children and 51 years together. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Lake Forest, IL. Betty and Paul operated Hillside Motel in Baraboo for over 25 years. Throughout the years, she also worked at St. Clare Hospital as the GoldenCare Coordinator, Wal-Mart, and JCPenney’s. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, arts & crafts, cooking, baking, decorating, traveling, swimming and shopping.

She is survived by her son, Thomas Hankins of Santa Clarita, CA; her grandchildren, Sarah (Jason Schutz) Brown of Baraboo, Miranda (Richie) Hamilton of La Crosse, Charles Cadmus of La Crosse, Kaylynne Thompson of Madison, DuWayne Cadmus of La Crosse; 8 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Edward Cammire of New Lenox, IL. Charles (Louise) Cammire of Kalamazoo, MI, Linda (William) Frankenberger of Mokena, IL; other relatives and dear friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and their daughters, April and Patricia Hankins.

Funeral Services will be held at 12 noon on Friday, June 7, 2024 at Redlin-Ertz Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Gunderson officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Following the service, burial will be held at Walnut Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the family which will be passed on to local charities.

Mrs Hankins was also so kind to me growing up. I used to spend a lot of time at her house hanging out with her granddaughter Kaylynne. I am so sorry to hear of her passing. May she Rest In Peace.
