Robert `Bob` Daniel Frank , Age 85

Robert “Bob” Daniel Frank, age 85, of Baraboo passed away Friday, Feb. 16, 2024 at St. Clare Hospital. 

 

Robert, son of Daniel and Ida (Ballard) Frank was born Feb. 2, 1939, he was the youngest of seven. Bob served in the Wisconsin National Guard and was called to active duty in 1961 during the Berlin Crisis when he was stationed in Fort Lewis in Tacoma, WA. He was honorably discharged in August of 1962. Being the youngest of a farming family, Bob was forced to quit school in the 8th grade to help on the family farm. During his time in the service, he obtained his GED. He married Susan Hiller and this marriage brought twin sons, Timothy and Todd in 1966. Bob worked at various mechanical jobs until he was hired by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Department in 1964. After 30 years of service, he retired as the day traffic Sergeant in 1994. He then worked alongside Patricia as a taxi driver from 1994 until 2010. On New Year's Day, 2000 he was united in marriage to Patricia (Richards) Niles. Together, Bob and Patricia enjoyed traveling in their RV, riding motorcycles and Friday Fish Frys.

 

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; sons, Timothy of Baraboo and Todd (Gloria) of San Diego, CA and their son, Jeremy of Canada; step-children, John (Tracy) Niles of Baraboo and their sons, Garrett and Drake, Robert (Erin) Niles of Camp Lejeune, NC and their daughter, Lily, Beverly (Jason) Terry of Baraboo; step-grandson, Matthew Powell, he is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; stepdaughter, Lynn (Niles) Graham and siblings, Ray, Harold, Don, Evelyn, Lula and Marjorie.

 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 11:00 am at Redlin-Ertz Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9:00 am until the time of service. Military honors will be conducted at the funeral home following the service. Inurnment will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery.

 

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be directed to a local veteran’s organization or to the Sauk County Sheriff's Special Projects Fund at the Community Foundation of South Central Wisconsin (checks payable to CFSCW, PO Box 544, Baraboo, WI 53913).

I knew Bob through my dad Butch. He investigated my one and only motorcycle accident. As a fellow law enforcement officer I had a lot of respect for him. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
