Raymond `Ray` Schendel, Sr.

Raymond C. “Ray” Schendel, Sr., age 79, of Baraboo, passed away on Friday, Oct. 27, 2023 at St. Clare Hospital. Raymond was born Dec. 14, 1943 in LaCrosse. Ray was adopted by Harold and Ann (Dahmer) Schendel at a young age and attended schools in the Sparta area. Ray moved his family to the Baraboo area in the late 1960’s to work for Badger Army Ammunition Plant. He continued to work in various capacities at local factories until his retirement. On Oct. 15, 1961 he enlisted in the US Army and proudly served until his honorable discharge on Aug. 16, 1962. Ray remained in the US Army National Guard until July 17, 1969. In his free time, he enjoyed going on motorcycle rides; he was a founding member of the Seekers Motorcycle Club.

Survivors include his children, Ray Schendel, Jr., Danielle (Rick) Uptagraw; grandchildren, Luke Jung, Ocean Barkstrom-Schendel, Miranda Kelley, Dakota Uptagraw, Harley (Arianna Lawyer) Uptagraw; great-grandchildren, Aria and Avinn Finch, Arilee and Rylan Uptagraw, as well as his brother, Richard Schendel, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Rich.

Funeral Services will be held at Redlin-Ertz Funeral Home on Monday, Nov. 6, 2023 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial with military honors will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery.
