David Roland Olson Wick , Age 79

May 01, 1944 --September 27, 2023

On Wednesday, September 27, 2023, David Roland Olson Wick finished his earthly race and entered the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. David was born May 1, 1944, in Janesville, WI to Henry O. Wick Sr. and Minnie M. ne Pilz Wick. He graduated from Beloit Memorial High School and furthered his education at Whitewater and Liberty University.

In 1964, David enlisted in the Army Reserves. He loved being a military man and serving his country. His unit was activated in 1967 for the Viet Nam protest riots in Milwaukee. He retired in 1994 at the rank of Command Sergeant Major.

During the 1960s, David was a Deputy with the Rock County Sheriffs department before joining the Wisconsin State Patrol in 1967. Eventually he joined Allstate Insurance where he served as a casualty claims manager before his retirement in 1999.

After retirement, David was looking for ways to impact the lives of other people. He started Service for Christ, a way for young men to learn how to serve and help others in Baraboo, especially within his church family. Later he established Not Forgotten which identified and honored WI soldiers who gave their all, serving our country during the 21st century. When his health deteriorated to the point that he could no longer make presentations, he donated all materials to High Ground in Neilsville, WI.

David was always committed to his family. He leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Bonnie ne Clough. He is survived by his three children, Paige Maas (Troy Martin) of Austin, TX; Scott Wick (Amy) of Houston TX; and Micca Swiatek (Zachary) of Barrington Hills, IL. He is also survived by nine grandchildren whom he adored. Elizabeth Zonno (Kyle Hoover), Tyler and Kayla Maas; Austin and Cambry Wick; and Carli, Wade, Cole, and Hayli Swiatek. David had a special relationship with his many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was blessed with many lifelong friends who loved and supported him right to the end.

David was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Henry O. Wick, Jr (Lorraine).

Early 2020 we moved back to IL to be near family. As Davids health deteriorated Parkinsons disease was added to his dementia. All of this led him to the Veterans Home in Manteno, IL, where he spent his final two years.

David will be greatly missed but we rejoice knowing he has been healed.

Services will be help at Walnut Hill Bible Church on Saturday, October 7th. Visitation begins at 10 AM with service at 11 AM. A luncheon will be served immediately following.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the Veterans Home staff for the wonderful care David received. They also appreciate the care and many kindnesses extended to him by the paramedics/EMTs of Barrington, IL.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Wounded Soldiers fund.

So sorry to hear that Dave had passed, but I know he is rejoicing with Jesus. We are so happy for him! I miss the days of seeing him walking in the neighborhood, his prayers over the kids on the first day of school, and his sincere care for others!
