LaVerne Ott

LaVerne Ott (84) of Baraboo passed away peacefully on April 25^th, 2023 with his wife and sons Gary and Matt by his side. LaVerne passed away in the mid-morning hours. The perfect time of day when you would find him out tending to his garden.

LaVerne was born November 12, 1938. Once he graduated high school he joined the US Army, infantry division. Shortly after his time in the army he was united in marriage with Janice Klaetsch. He spent many years working at the Badger Army Ammunition Plant.

LaVerne is survived by his wife Janice of 60 years and their children: Gary Ott, Linda Ott, Sue (Chad) Stier, Joe (Jean) Ott, Matthew (Kim) Ott and his siblings Jerry Ott, Marilyn Weiland, and Jo Giebel. He leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

LaVerne was preceded in death by his parents, Eleanor and Roy, his sister Janice Kruse, and his daughter Kristi Ott.

He enjoyed wood working, gardening, farming, truck, and tractor pulls, and spending time with his grandchildren. After retirement he worked for the Baraboo Police Department as a crossing guard. Everyone that had the pleasure of knowing LaVerne knew that he was always willing to help in any way he could. He was a kind; gentle soul and he will be missed dearly.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 5, 2023 at Redlin-Ertz Funeral Home in Baraboo at 11am. Visitation will be held from 10am until the time of service. A burial with military honors will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, North Freedom, following the funeral.
