Janice M. Caflisch , Age 83

August 31, 1939 --April 24, 2023

Janice M. Caflisch, of Baraboo, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2023.

She was born on August 31, 1939 to Roger and Birdie Danbeck, in Baraboo.

Jan married Gordon Caflisch, Jr. in 1958 at St. John's Lutheran Church. They were blessed with two children, Gordon III and Jodie, and further blessed with two grandchildren, Gordon IV and Lindsey Caflisch.

In 1967 Jan moved to Australia with her husband and children for three years, where they made lifelong friends. Upon their return to Baraboo, Jan joined the workforce and began a career as a bookkeeper at Deppe Enterprises, where she worked with four generations of Deppes. She would eventually celebrate her 50-year anniversary at Deppe's with her co-workers.

Jan had a very special circle of friends that made the commitment to meet up once a week for many years. She also bowled on a successful league team, started an investment club, and made occasional trips with friends to Elko, Nevada. She enjoyed slot machines at HoChunk Casino and was an avid sports fan.

Jan and family hosted an AFS student from Colombia in 1982-83, Adolfo Lenis. She has maintained close contact with him and his family ever since.

Survivors include her son, Gordon III (Tamela) of Baraboo; her daughter, Jodie (Carlyle) Ramsey of Baraboo; grandson, Gordon Caflisch IV of Morgan Hills, CA; granddaughter, Lindsey Caflisch of Baraboo. She is further survived by her sister, Marjorie Cahoon of Wisconsin Dells; brother- and sister-in-law, Dr. Carlton (Carolyn) Caflisch of Muldoon, TX; Adolfo Lenis (who she thought of like a son); three nephews, two nieces, numerous cousins, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, both parents, and brother-in-law, Jim Cahoon.

Funeral services will be held at 11am Thursday, May 4, 2023 at St. John's Lutheran Church, with visitation occurring from 10am to time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. John's Lutheran School, Sauk County Humane Society, or Sauk County Historical Society would be appreciated.

Her calm demeanor and flair for quick wit will be missed by many.
