Martha Mae Owen Abney

Martha Mae Owen Abney, 84, of Baraboo, WI passed away peacefully on November 16, 2021 at Oak Park Memory Care in Baraboo from complications due to Covid and dementia.

Marty was born June 4, 1937 in Portage, WI to John and Esther Owen. She grew up on the Owen family farm outside of Portage and raised her family in Baraboo before moving to Martinez, CA. There she met and married the love of her life, Jerry Abney. She enjoyed living in California for over 30 years where she was employed by the Contra Costa County Tax Collection Office. She enjoyed her crafting clubs, bingo, and book clubs there until she returned to Baraboo several years before her death. Marty loved spending time with her friends, family, and family pets. We often joked that she loved dogs as much as her family, especially her little schnauzer Shelby.

She is survived by her children, Brenda (Gregg) McArthur, Mike (Rebecca) Hoppe, and Craig Hoppe; six grandchildren, Lexie McArthur, Leigha McArthur-Fenton, Mitchel, Cole and Dante Hoppe and Jaida Hoppe; and three great grandchildren, Hudson and Colette Traska and Declan Fenton; also sisters Jean Kabele and Helen Paske, and brother David Owen.

Marty was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sisters, Mary Dawson and Margaret Hill.
