Mary Jean Luther , Age 61

January 10, 1960 --November 05, 2021

Mary Jean Luther who was loved by all, departed her loving family on Friday, November 5, 2021 at St. Clare Hospital with family by her side at the age of 61. Mary, daughter of Phillip and Ellerine (Perkins) Copus was born Jan. 10, 1960 in Baraboo and lived her entire life there. Mary endured many serious health issues in her lifetime. At a young age Mary was diagnosed with Polio and lived her life with the pain and physical challenges from that but still lived every day to the fullest.

On Oct. 23, 1982 she was united in marriage to William "Bill" Luther at St. Joseph Catholic Church. She spent her life with her beloved husband, Bill, of 39 years.

In July of 2021 she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, she faced chemotherapy head on with a wicked fighting spirit. She and Bill were positive and strong, and Mary often repeated, "I will fight everyday with everything I have to beat cancer". She was a fiercely independent woman and never wanted to be an imposition on anyone. Mary loved Bill, her family, Bingo, Mt. Dew, her dogs, and her fish. Her greatest joy however was spending time with her nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Mary was always looking for a way to hold a baby and did not ever want to give that baby up.

She will be remembered and missed by her husband, Bill and her nephew, Roger Copus. She was a surrogate mother to her nieces and nephew, Melissa Ramczyk, Brandon (Krysta Clements) Luther, Trisha (Joe) Schultz after their mother died at a very young age. She is also survived by Bills large extended family; nieces; nephews; beloved great nieces and nephews in the Luther and Copus families.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Billy, Kenny and Phyllis.

We would like to thank her medical team for the compassionate and loving care they showed Mary and Bill and the multitude of friends who supported them throughout her journey.

A time of gathering will be held on Thursday, Nov. 11, 2021 from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at Redlin-Ertz Funeral Home. An open time of eulogy will take place on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. for family and friends to share memories of Mary.

Mary was feisty and strong and had the heart of an angel. I first met her in September of 1967. Even at the age of 7 she was sassy, independent, and never hesitated to tell you what she thought. She became my little “Sissy” that day and will remain that forever. My sympathy goes out to the family and friends who were blessed enough to have this amazing woman in their life. To Bill Luther, her wonderful husband. You were her rock and the love of her life. You made her so happy and you two were the perfect picture of what a good marriage should be. My heart an deepest sympathy go out to you. Every time I saw or spoke with Mary she would end it with the same words so I will end this the same way: Bye Sister - Love you. Always have an always will.”

Aunt Mary will always remain in my heart. So many memories as a kid, going to visit my dad Kenny and big brother Roger. And Grandma. Mary used to always love to do my hair. She got me all the shirt tale stuffed animals. I had to keep most at grandmas house though so I had something to do the next time I came over. She would let me look at Grandmas pretty dolls in her cabinets. And, sometimes, even when I was told I couldn’t leave to go to Corner Drug to get smokes for dad and candy like Roger got to do. She would tell him he could take me that time 😊. RIP will always remember how much you loved me… love you more!!!!

Dear Friends -- I am so very, very sorry for your loss. Mary was a radiant, joyful, lovely, beautiful spirit, despite everything that she endured. Mary was an inspiration to us all, optimistic and hopeful, with her radiant smile and loving ways. I hold you all in my thoughts, my prayers, my heart during this sad time. Due to my husband's recent spinal fusion surgery, he and I are still not gathering in larger indoor crowds right now in order to keep us both safe from COVID during his recovery from surgery. So, while I will not be there in person to share in your mourning for the loss of Mary, please know that you will all be in my heart. Wishing you all peace. Please know how much you are loved. With deepest sympathy, Keri Olson
