Kari, Dean, Craig, Melvin and families, I was saddened to hear of Uncle Paul’s passing. It is never easy saying good-bye to someone we love. I have many fond memories of Uncle Paul and the time I spent with him and Aunt Phyllis. I was thankful for the advice he gave us on what to look for in a school district when we were moving back to Wisconsin from Indiana. May happy memories comfort you during this time. Love, Greg & Terri (Vertein) Mueller

Communications Specialist, Retired, Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Madison , Wisconsin

I first worked with Paul when I was a reporter in Watertown and he was a superintendent in Hustisford. I remember his patience in explaining school issues so they were understandable to the public. Our paths crossed again at the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. And again, I was struck by his professionalism and patience. He was a remarkable man.

I enjoyed working with Paul at the DPI for many years and used to tease Phyllis, saying that Paul and I conducted so many seminars together that we could complete each others' sentences. He was highly knowledgeable in the field and his forthrightness and attention to detail were well-respected by practitioners and school board members throughout Wisconsin. I always enjoyed his sense of humor and remember his convincing his granddaughter that there was a magic cookie tree in their yard. If I am not mistaken, he also told us that he lost his first campaign for public office because he advocated for removing the beer keg from the fire station.

I had Mr. Endres for a 7th grade teacher in 1958. It was because of the excellent teaching job he did that I became a 7th grade teacher myself. I taught for 34 years. Gladys and Steve Proctor December 28, 2020

former student Baraboo , Wisconsin

To the family of Mr. Endres, When I was a student at the Baraboo Junior High, I had Mr. Endres for my teacher. I was a very shy, easy to blush, girl. He would play a game: he would call on me, "Gladys", softly and the class thought he was saying "Class," They would all provide the answer he was looking for. But I got it. He would smile at me and continue on. I would blush and carry on. I've always remembered him as a funny, kind man. Incidentally, I was talking to my husband about this little classroom story, and he said he was hired to replace Mr. Endres! I did not know that. If that had not happened, I would not have met Steve (he was from Iowa), we would not have married, and would not have our two beloved daughters. I'm so sorry to hear of your lost. My sympathies to his loved ones. Gladys Proctor

I wish to offer my condolences. I worked at DPI with Paul in the school finance division. Paul was very competent and always nice to work with. Also we were both veterans. and could share experiences.

Neighbor Baraboo , Wisconsin

Paul & Phyllis were our neighbors on 5th street in Baraboo. Paul was one of the kindest people I have ever known. When I was a freshman at Baraboo High school, I broke my ankle during football practice. While I was on crutches, Paul drove me to school every day for 3 months. When I turned 16, Paul let me use his car which had push button automatic and was much easier to use than a manual transmission. I stayed in contact with him when I took my taxes to him at National Tax Service, He will be missed.

Mr. Endres was my history teacher and study hall teacher at Baraboo Junior High School. He trusted me to do work in the teacher’s lounge during my study hall. He had a positive influence on me at this young age that I still remember today at age 69. Isn’t that what teaching is about? Thank you for being my teacher.
