I knew Tonya online through the PSP community. We became closer over the summer and I was able to see how much of an amazing person she truly was, her autocorrect blunders gave many a true belly laugh, along with her quick witted responses. When I woke up this morning and came into FB...I thought it would just be another day in FB land...never in a million years did I expect to see my newsfeed filled with posts after posts about Tonya's passing. I couldn't believe it and still can't believe it...I would interact with Tonya from time to time and she was always so nice, respectful, funny, witty, and just downright a genuinely nice human being...she was the type of person that made you want to be a better person...In one of my last interactions with her here in FB she offered to make me a timeline banner...I told her I would take her up on her offer since I don't have time to make my own because I take care of my granddaughter and you all know PSP work takes time and she always did such beautiful work...anyway after that I got so busy I never got to tell her what I wanted my banner to be like and now I wish I would've done it right away so I would have something of hers that she made for me...we always think we have time. I worked with Tonya in the Bursar’s office at MATC for several years. When you work that closely with someone, you become good friends. Tonya was loved by my family too. She shared several Thanksgiving meals with us bringing her delicious fruit pizza to share in our meal. Tonya had the “drug” drawer in her desk. Had a headache? No problem. She had every headache medication all of us needed. One thing she absolutely hated we’re marshmallow Peeps, and I took advantage of it even after we moved to different offices. Tonya was a great helper with everyone’s work in the office., and she knew it well. She could always be counted on in a pinch.. She laughed often, but we watched out if someone made her angry. She never wore socks and even wore sandals and capris during the winter. That was Tonya. Kind, caring and thoughtful. Full of life! May we always remember our fun times with Tonya. Tonya will be missed dearly in our Finance Office. I have only known her for almost 5 years, but we relied on her experience, knowledge and professionalism on a daily basis. You cannot just replace someone who has worked with a student system, with all the modifications, processes and unique nuances for as long as she has, but most of all, you cannot replace Tonya. She was sweet, kind and had a great attitude in an area where there was constant change. She was always there to help. My heart is heavy for the loss of one so young and special. Tonya... she left us way too soon. I knew her from PSP groups and on Facebook. Her talents were natural and I looked up to her for help and advise and she was always there. I'm incredibly sad and sorry for your tragic loss. A loss we're all feeling because she was so important to so many people. She was a beautiful person, inside and out. Her caring nature and the way she made people feel important, was one of her best qualities. Tonya had a quirky sense of humour also. She'd laugh at some of things I'd chat to her about because I'm from Australia and some of the slang I used she didn't quite get.
