William R. `Bill` Turner , Age 73
William R. "Bill" Turner, age 73, of Fairfield passed away Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020 at home with his loving family by his side. William, son of Leo and Helen (Keller) Turner was born Sept. 16, 1946. William attended Pecks Corner Grade School, Baraboo High School and obtained his Associates Degree from Madison Area Technical College. On June 17, 1967 he was united in marriage to Charlene Marie Walker. Bill hauled milk for Zech and Kuhnau. He proudly served in the US Army Reserve during the Vietnam War from May 13, 1968 until his honorable discharge on Aug. 20, 1969. He dedicated his entire life to farming and raising his family. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Baraboo, volunteering as an usher for many years; he was also a member of the American Legion, VFW, Vietnam Veterans Chapter 221 in Portage and 4thDegree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing euchre, Mexican train, baking cookies from Harry Jantz recipes, attending the Sauk County fair demolitions and volunteering at the beer stand. He served on the Town of Fairfield Board for many years.
Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Charlene; children, Billy (Sherry) Turner, Jeff (Wendy) Turner, Ben (Dena) Turner, all of Baraboo and Susan (Donnie) Thering of Sauk City. He is further survived by eight grandchildren, Patrick, Ashton, Brandt, Leyla, Jenna, Logan, Mason and Clayton; his favorite brother, John (Deb) Turner of Baraboo as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, George (Myrtle) Keller.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Baraboo on Friday, Sept. 18, 2020 at 11 a.m. with Father Jay Poster officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of mass. Military honors will be conducted at the church following the mass. The Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Charlene, I am so sorry to hear of Billy’s passing. I guess you can tell that I grew up knowing Billy, since I add the y to his name! I always thought you two were the nicest looking couple that I knew! My prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time. Perhaps Billy and Dad (Harry Jantz) are baking cookies for the Lord right now! I know that Dad always hoped there were tractors in heaven, if so, I know two guys who will be driving them! Dear Turner family What a wonderful photo of Bill….exactly as I remember him back in high school with that smile of his always reflecting his sunny disposition. And he was exactly the same whenever we met up at our reunions every five years thereafter. Last Friday morning the radio station my wife and I usually listen to played a version of the ‘Jimmy Brown Song’ made famous by The Browns back in 1959. Even now, the lyrics and the repeated melodies describing the three important milestones of a life still reverberate within me. Reading his obituary and his report in our 50th reunion booklet, Bill is the best soul I can imagine that epitomises what that song is all about. My sincere condolences to all of you at this sorrowful time; may all of the good memories of Bill provide comfort to you now and forever in the future.

Charlene and family--this is Karen's twin, Sharon. Every now and then I check the obits at Redlin and was saddened to see that Bill had passed away. He was a nice man. Sending my sympathy and love.
