Shirley Faye Clement , Age 79


December 11, 1940 --December 28, 2019

Shirley Faye Clement, 79, of Nashville, TN, passed away on December 28, 2019 at her home. Shirley was born in Baraboo, WI on December 11, 1940, to parents Oliver Ulrich Clement and Cecil Irene Clement.

Shirley graduated from Baraboo High School, Class of 1958. She started her college education in applied mathematics and mechanics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and transferred to North Central College in Naperville, IL to pursue religious studies. She then went on to earn her Masters in Religious Education from Evangelical Theological Seminary, Naperville, IL and her Doctorate of Theology from Vanderbilt University Divinity School, Nashville, TN.

In her youth, she worked as a Lifeguard at the Baraboo Pool, where she taught adult swim classes, started a swim and dive team, and participated in water ballet (synchronized swimming). As a Diaconal Minister of the Wisconsin Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, Shirley worked in Christian Education, Youth Ministries, and Global Evangelism. In her retirement, she enjoyed volunteering with Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN.

Hospitality was very important to Shirley and she extended it freely to everyone starting with the phrase Greetings! She always made sure the people around her were comfortable and had what they needed. Shirley was an author of ministry resources, adored cats, enjoyed football, softball, music, games, swimming, and spending time with her many friends.

Shirley is survived by nieces and nephews; Oliver M. (Ginger Adams) Clement, Diana M. (Rick) Franzen and Douglas R. (Bonnie) Clement, 11 great nieces and nephews, and 4 great-great nieces and nephews, and friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and brother Oliver R. Clement (Audrey).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alive Hospice at 1718 Patterson Street, Nashville, TN, 37203.

A private family graveside service will be held at Walnut Hill Cemetery.
