Daniel `Dan` Gillette , Age 60

May 13, 1960 --May 07, 2020

Dan Gillette, age 59, passed away unexpectedly at his Baraboo home on Thursday, May 7, 2020. Dan, son of Frank and Lorraine (Dries) Gillette was born May 13, 1960. He attended LaFollette High School and graduated from UW-Madison with a degree in Business. On Sept. 2, 2000, Dan married the love of his life, Michelle. Together they loved their community, including those in Isla Mujeres. They lived life to the fullest-traveling, love of cars, snowmobiling, outdoor activities, and animals. Dan was a beloved husband, father and friend that will be dearly missed. Survivors include his loving wife of almost 20 years, Michelle; children, Erin, Matt and Bella; siblings, Fred (Ellie) Gillette, Paul (Jean) Gillette, Marianne (John) Taylor, Dave (fiance, Sherry) Gillette; as well as nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. In the words of his oldest brother, Dan was admired for his discipline, work ethic, ingenuity, and versatility. He was modest despite his successes. A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Baraboo River Equine-Assisted Therapies, Inc. (BREATHE); Al Ringling Theatre; islaanimals.org; and islakids.org. Because today, today at least, you're you, and that's enough.

I am so heartbroken for you Michelle! Dan was always such an easy going guy to be friends with. We had such great memories of adopting our daughters together and taking the trips to San Antonio to do so. Stacey will have another friend in heaven for sure. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and family.......Mike

Michelle, I am so very sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you and your family. You and Dan had that special relationship so few people find, and I hope you can take some comfort in knowing how blessed you were to have that as long as you did. I am praying for you all. Love, Katy

Dear Fred, Marianne, Paul and Dave ..... We are sending our support and affection your way. The tragic and untimely passing of Danny has touched us all. Dan from a very early age exuded a kindness that was rare and he demonstrated an inspiring sense of community. When we were still on Hegg Avenue and Dan was working at the C&P Plaza, he phoned our house. Ray happened to answer the phone and Dan asked if Kelly (our dog) was home. Ray said she was and asked if Dan would like to talk to her. Dan asked Ray to double check because he thought Kelly was strolling through the toy section in the lower level of the Plaza ..... and indeed she was! Another example of Dan and his profound sense of community care came many years later when I was working for the police department. I happened to answer the phone and it was Dan and he was on a mission. He had read a media release about an old man who had been robbed when he was trying to shovel snow. Dan called to say that he didn't care where the old gent lived or how much work needed to be done, he would haul his snowblower to the fellows home and make sure he was never victimized again. Very Dan. We are so very sorry the burden of sudden loss has fallen upon you. You and Dan, his wife and children are in our prayers and we will join you in celebrating Dan when we can again be together. On behalf of Kathy (yep: she's 95,) Janice, Patti, John and Ray, MaryAnne (Fred: that's Judy to you)
