Dona Rae (Lobenstein) Smith


Dona Rae (Lobenstein) Smith, 76 of Baraboo, passed away Tuesday May 14, 2019 at the UW Hospital in Madison after a long battle with cancer.Dona was born in Mauston, WI on September 19, 1942 to parents Raymond Lobenstein and Marie Gregor. On May 21, 1960 she married the love of her life, Roy Smith in Mauston, WI.She had several jobs throughout her life that she was proud of, including being a CNA at Hess Memorial Hospital and Mile Bluff Clinic, a manager at Grimsrud Shoes, an employee at Special Effects in Wisconsin Dells, and several other retail shops in The Dells area.She was the president of the Mauston Chamber of Commerce for several years. She loved Cardinals and other birds, making crafts and attending craft fairs, and planting flowers.Dona was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Marie, her step-father, Clark Johnson; aunts, Margaret Koranda, Kate Gregor, and Elvira Kenney, and her uncle, Donald Gregor.She is survived by her husband, Roy Smith; children, Craig (Peggy) Smith of Mauston, Christopher (Julie) Smith of Baraboo, and Michelle (Matthew) Gardehl of Wonewoc; grandchildren, Mitchell (Karen) Smith, Cody (Fiancee Chelsea) Smith, Jordan Smith, and Megan (boyfriend, Kyle Helm) Gardehl; great-grandchild, Logan Smith; sister, Deidre Jensen; brother, Bernard (Judy) Lobenstein; cousin, Judith Gregor; niece, Leslie Jensen, as well as several other nieces, nephews and cousins.In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the UW Carbone Center.A prayer service will be held on Friday May 24, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Jared Holzhuter officiating at Redlin Funeral Home, Baraboo, WI. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow at Mauston City Cemetery.
