Jean E. (Sizer) Caldwell

Jean E. (Sizer) Caldwell, 88, better known as "Grandma Jean", passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at home surrounded by loving family.Jean was born June 27, 1930, to Leslie and Amanda Sizer in Milwaukee, WI. After attending Washington High School, Jean furthered her education at Carroll College University in Waukesha, graduating with a major in Spanish. During her time at Carroll, Jean pledged with Chi Omega sorority. Through the social functions at Chi Omega, Jean met her future husband, Rodger Caldwell, and formed wonderful memories and life-long friendships with other members.Jean married her college sweetheart, Rodger J. Caldwell, on June 20, 1953, and became a mother to twin boys, Jon and Craig, in 1955. A daughter, Susan, followed in 1958. Taking her role as Mother very seriously, Jean's greatest mission was instilling a healthy moral compass in her children and grandchildren. Qualities such as commitment, fortitude and persistence were simply expected. Being a nurturer came naturally to Grandma Jean and she considered it a gift to have a second time around to help her grandchildren with homework, tofollow their school activities, and cheer them on in their endeavors. Jean adored her great-grandchildren, Beckham and Finley; they were the apple of her eye. We know Grandma Jeansucceeded in her mission, and while she will be dearly missed, we also know she is now completely at peace.Jean was a lady of diverse talents and interests, including sewing, knitting, cooking, and probably her favorite, dancing. Jean started dance lessons at a very early age, which continuedthroughout her school years. Jean danced professionally with the Florence West Dance Company in the Milwaukee area during summer breaks throughout high school and college andeventually advanced to teaching dance and choreographing many musical productions. Jean's talent for sewing came in handy as she was able to make countless dance recital costumes for her children. Teaching knitting to Circus City 4-H club members was another of Jean's joys. Cooking was Jean's personal passion, and she enjoyed recipes and techniques handed down from generation to generation, collecting thousands of recipes over the years, many she had actually made and could recite from memory.Jean is survived by her son, Craig (Melanie) Caldwell; daughter, Susan (Bill) Krug; daughter-in- law, Robin (Jon) Caldwell; grandchildren, Rachel ( Andy ) Brandt; Spencer Caldwell, Natalie Krug, and Alison Krug; and great-grandsons, Beckham and Finley Brandt. She is also survived by a special cousin, Tom (Linda) Gulley and their children.She was preceded in death by her husband, Rodger, and her son, Jon.The Caldwell, Brandt and Krug families would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to P.A. Gretchen Considine at Sauk Prairie Clinic, medical staff in acute care at Sauk Prairie Hospital and SSM Home Health and Agrace Hospice staffs for the wonderful care they provided.A memorial service in celebration of Jean's life will be held on Friday, June 28, 2019 at the Emanuel United Methodist Church, 101 14th Street, Baraboo, WI, at 11 a.m. Visitation with the family will start at 10 a.m. and continue up to the time of the service. A luncheon, including Grandma Jean's famous hot beef recipe, will be served following the service. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Jean's memory be made to the Al Ringling Theatre in Baraboo.
