Lawrence "Larry" Volz


Lawrence "Larry" Volz, age 91 of the Town of Delton passed away Thursday, March 21, 2019 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. Lawrence, son of Ernest and Hattie (Cridelich) Volz was born Jan. 16, 1928. On Oct. 22, 1949 he was united in marriage to Arlene Capener; she preceded him in death on Nov. 9, 2009. Larry was a farmer most of his life. Besides farming he worked for D. L. Gasser Construction. After retirement he worked at Mirror Lake State Park. Larry was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 139, Wisconsin Bear Hunters Association, Conservation Congress, Sauk County Planning and Zoning Commission, Past Chairman of Baraboo-Dells Airport Commission, Sauk County Board of Supervisors, lifetime member of Delton Sportsman Club and was currently serving as Delton Town Chair. Larry was an avid hunter and fisherman in his younger years. He enjoyed bowling, pitching horseshoes and running field trials with his sons.Survivors include his daughter, Joyce (Jerry) Cone of Baraboo; son, David (Sheila) Volz of Wonewoc; six grandchildren, Julie (Don) Cone, Gary (Melissa) Volz, Chad (Jenny) Volz, Mike (Lisa) Cone, Nicki Cone and Dan (Bethany) Volz; numerous great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his very special friend, Mary White and her son, Jason; siblings, Arleen Rick, Lorna Volz and Roy (Janet) Volz; sisters-in-law, Virginia Robinson and Lynn Capener; brother-in-law, Norm (Mary) Capener; a dear nephew, Russell Volz and Larry and Arlene's precious cat, "Tanner".He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Arlene; son, Jerry Volz; and brothers and sisters-in-law.Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 25, 2019 at 11 a.m. at New Life Community Advent Christian Church in Baraboo with Rev. Jesse Stevens officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at Redlin Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. as well as on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will follow at Butterfield Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family to be used toward a memorial at the Delton Sportsman's Club.
