John Robert Marquardt


John Robert Marquardt, age 69 of Baraboo, passed away at home on Wednesday, February 20, 2019. John, son of Melvin and Mildred (Dunn) Marquardt was born November 27, 1949. He graduated from Baraboo High School, class of 1968. John proudly enlisted in the US Navy but received an honorable medical discharge shortly thereafter. On October 16, 1971 he was united in marriage to JoNelle "Jo" Kay Brandt at St. John's Lutheran Church in Baraboo; she preceded him in death on Jan. 9, 2015. John and Jo were childhood sweethearts, being blessed with 43 years of marriage. He was employed by Oscar Mayer, Mid-State Associates, and Sysco Foods throughout his working career. In his younger years, John loved playing softball for Sundown Electric, participating in bow and trap shoots, as well as fishing and hunting with his dad and brothers. He was Past President of Baraboo Bowmen. John found great peace while outdoors; he was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, morel hunting, and bird watching. John will be remembered for taking care of his family, giving great hugs and kisses, having his mother's green thumb, creating a home for countless dogs throughout the years and his unique ability to creatively repurpose items most people would throw away. He loved to watch sports and Westerns, having dinner at Jose's with his daughters, but most of all cuddling with his grandkids and sneaking them M&M's.John is survived by "his girls", Kristi (Rob) Heim, Kari (Ben) Thoma and Jenna (Kevin Hendrickson) Marquardt; grandkids, Lillian Grace and Charlotte Rosemarie Heim, Hunter John and Paige NiKole Thoma. He is further survived by his siblings, Judy (Rod) Birch-Blum, Jan (William) Bance, Mike (Jeannie Kowing) Marquardt; brothers-in-law, Tom (Lori) Brandt, Rick (Donna) Brandt; sisters-in-law, Nadine Marquardt and Julie Blaney, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and lifelong friends Don Rogers and Bill Karg and fourth daughter', Heather Hess. John will also be dearly missed by his four-legged companion, Abby.He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jo; brothers, James, Gerald and Mark Marquardt; parents-in-law, Melvin and Delores Brandt and brother-in-law, Tom Birch.Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2019 at St. John's Lutheran Church with Pastor Tim Kuske officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, Feb. 25, 2019 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Redlin Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Tuesday. Burial will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery where military rites will be conducted. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or School.
