Elizabeth "Betty" Jones

Elizabeth "Betty" Marie Jones, nee McGaver, age 93, of Baraboo, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 25, 2019 at Meadow Ridge Assisted Living Facility in Baraboo, Wisconsin.Betty was born on December 21, 1925 in Fairchild, Wisconsin, to Joseph and Myrtle McGaver. Growing up on the family farm, Betty learned the lessons of her generation, how to sew, cook, love and care for your family and all those in need. Lessons she freely passed on to her children and grandchildren. These lessons fostered her independent spirit and served her well as she ventured out into the world. Betty left home after high-school to work in Chicago with her best friend Lilas Johnston. Working for "Ma Bell" prepared her well for her intriguing job during the Korean Conflict as a top-secret telephone operator at the military post, Fort McCoy, in Wisconsin. It was here she met the future love of her life, Robert E. Jones, a soldier stationed at the post. Moving to Colorado, she became a military wife and mother. The family returned to Wisconsin, eventually settling in Tomah, Wisconsin on a small farm, where Betty worked at a VA Hospital as first a lab technician and finally, a Psychology Technician. Her assigned role in life, as she saw it, was to raise, love, and cherish her family with all the generosity, good food, a knack for entertaining, and a quiet, but hilarious sense of humor, a women of her generation could muster. She did this with a keen mind, talents in the kitchen as well a sewing machine, the perfect shade of red lipstick, and an inner strength that all who knew her, admired and loved.Betty is survived by her children; her daughter, Wendy (Stan) Moore of Brownstown, MI, and her son, Mark (Kathy) Jones, of Baraboo, and two grandchildren, Alexis and Everett Jones of Madison, WI. Her last living sibling, Bernard, of Hudson, WI, and many nieces and nephews admired Betty for her inner strength and strong sense of survival. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert, of 58 years, her sisters, Helen, Dolores, Anna Mae and Bernadean as well as her bother Leon who was killed during WWII.Her family will celebrate her life with ceremonies in the warmer summer time, when family and friends may better travel to give her a true final farewell.Mom, we know you are watching over us, wishing you could cook us one last meal, make me one last dress, patch my jeans one last time, rock your grandbabies you waited so long for, have one last "Manhatten" and one more dance with Bob. We have all learned your lessons; be generous with your time and love, think for yourself, be strong and put one foot in front of the other you will survive. Dad is waiting, Mom, fly up to be with him. We can handle this!
